AŽD cooperates on the Railway Interlocking System Simulation (RISS) project

AŽD Praha, a company that develops, manufactures and installs signalling, telecommunication and control technologies mainly in the field of railway transport cooperates on the international project Rail Interlocking System Simulation (RISS) in more than twenty countries around the world. The aim of the project is to create open-source simulation software that accurately models real fully electronic station interlocking equipment from various manufacturers, one of which is StationSWing ESA 44 from the Czech company AŽD.

The simulation software will primarily be intended for secondary and university students from Turkey but also from other European Union countries, as a tutorial tool for the operation, maintenance and repair of these modern technologies.

The RISS project is part of the European Union's Erasmus+ KA220-VET programme, aimed at creating digital educational materials for vocational training in the field of railway infrastructure. The programme responds to the lack of digital resources in the railway sector and aims to improve the sustainability of education through innovative tools such as simulations and online learning platforms that offer practical learning opportunities in railway systems and a detailed interface guide to maximise learning effectiveness. These tools will enable:

  • practical training at a distance,
  • improving the quality of education,
  • offering real-world applications,
  • promoting a skilled workforce in the rail industry.

The project promotes innovation in vocational education and sets a new standard for the integration of digital technology in educational processes.

The project coordinator is Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryolları – TCDD (Turkey), whereby the partners are:

  • Gölcük Martyr Volkan Tantürk Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School (Turkey),
  • Çınarlı Vocational and Technical Anadolu High School (Turkey),
  • University of Zagreb (Croatia),
  • Fondazione ITS Antonio Cuccovillo (Italy),
  • LudusXR (Denmark),
  • AŽD (Czech Republic).

The project runs from January 2024 to December 2025 with a total budget of € 250,000.
