AŽD Praha to Supply Modern Control-Command and Signalling Technology for Montenegro's Main Railway Hub

AŽD Praha won the tender for the modernization of the interlocking system of the Podgorica railway station, which is the main transport hub in Montenegro. The EUR 6.1 million project will take 12 months.

Within the modernization, the Podgorica station will be equipped with ESA 44 – state-of-the-art fully electronic station interlocking system. The company will also provide 55 points, install 3 level crossing systems, and complete the station with modern LED signals, which proved successful during the recent modernization of the Belgrade main train station in Serbia.

"By signing the contract, we continue in our successful mission in Southeast Europe, where we have managed to get several orders in three countries. This opens the path for new orders, for example, in Montenegro, where another seven stations on the Bjelo Polje - Bar line are to be modernized," said Zdeněk Chrdle, CEO of AŽD Prague.

By winning the public tender, AŽD Praha has established a good position in Montenegro, where it already provided Czech technologies for the whole Podgorica – Nikšič line between 2004 and 2010.

In addition to the interlocking system for the Podgorica railway station, AŽD Praha has signed a contract with the local infrastructure administrator (Željeznička infrastruktura Crne Gore AD Podgorica) for the supply and installation of heating of railway points for the Ostrog and Nikšić stations. AŽD Praha Saobračajni sistemi, a subsidiary of AŽD in Belgrade, will be significantly involved in the implementation of this project.
