The project also includes a modern level crossing supplied by the Bulgarian subsidiary Balkan SAST and an interface to the trackside part of the ETCS level L1. This will be activated in the next phase of modernisation.
AŽD cooperated closely on the project with its Bulgarian subsidiary Balkan SAST, which participated in both the production and the installation of the equipment. Key parts of the technology were manufactured at its production plant in Sofia. As part of the technical modifications, a new MMI user interface (standardised ETCS user terminal) was also developer and designed exactly according to the requirements of the Bulgarian state railway operator NKŽI (Национална компания "Железопътна инфраструктура").
"This is a strategic milestone for AŽD. It represents a significant entry into the Bulgarian railway market, which we have been seeking for a long time. Thanks to this project, our technology will obtain the necessary approvals for operation in Bulgaria, which will open the door to further opportunities in the region. We are currently working on another project in this country and are ready to prove that Czech technologies have a lot to offer in the European railway environment, including the high flexibility of our teams," says AŽD CEO Zdeněk Chrdle.
